Malgarr Wall Shield (Small) - Australian Red Cedar - Gaan The Snake - Mick Harding

Sale price$190.00 AUD

Wall Malgarr (shield) with the Gaan (snake) design.

Traditionally, Malgarr were used with Liyangayil (fighting clubs) for hand-to-hand combat with enemies. Mick Harding has replicated the shape of these shields in his artwork.

Gaan the Snake is a very clever hunter and only ever takes what he needs. Warmer weather sees snakes out and about looking for food and shelter, as well as being mating time. Snakes can move more quickly in the warmer months, and in Victoria they mostly hibernate in the cooler months - but can be seen out on a warm day.

Hand crafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.

All artefacts come with an information card which contains information about the artist, artefact and design. All designs are based on traditional Aboriginal symbols from south-east Australia.
