About The Artist

Colleen was born on the Santa Teresa Mission where she was raised with traditional education and ideals by her stepmother, Katherine Wallace. Santa Teresa is located approximately 85kms south-east of Alice Springs and 80km from the Simpson Desert on the Santa Teresa Aboriginal Land Trust. Her father’s country is near Gem Tree, north of Alice Springs.

Colleen is a self-taught artist who comes from a strong family tradition of Eastern Arrernte painters. She is renowned for her beautiful ‘Dreamtime Sisters’ – three Eastern Arrernte spirits that were the first women on earth during the earth’s creation – and together, they hold and protect the ancient wisdom and sacred stories of the Dreamtime. The intricacy of Colleen’s exquisite dotting, combined with the soaring power of the sisters rising proudly into the sky, result in stunning, colourful pieces that rightfully belong in many collections within Australia and internationally.
