This beautifully handcrafted sheild, known as a Thiparra, is hand carved out of Mulga and hand burnt by Kristian Coultard from Blinman in the Flinders Rangers SA.
The sheild is called a Thiparra. The lines on the back represent story lines and song lines. The two etched lines represent our two moiety - north wind and south wind. Etchings represent all the generations of our people. The etchings are coloured with red ochre. Thiparra's were used for fighting and protection.
