Malgarr Wall Shield- Australian Red Cedar - Womindjeka - Mick Harding

Sale price$290.00 AUD

Malgarr (shield) with Womindjeka (welcome) design.

Traditionally, Malgarr were used with Liyangayil (fighting clubs) for hand-to-hand combat with enemies. Mick Harding has replicated the shape of these shields in his artwork.

Womindjeka means "Welcome".

In a welcoming ceremony, Djerrang-U Wurrdhadindu (many gum leaves) are burnt in a Darnuk (wooden bowl). This creates smoke, which is walked through by visitors to cleanse them and welcome them to country.

Hand crafted in Australia from Australian Red Cedar timber.

All artefacts come with an information card which contains information about the artist, artefact and design. All designs are based on traditional Aboriginal symbols from south-east Australia.

Measurements: 57 cm L x 17 cm W x 2.5 cm D
Please note: Due to these items being handmade, measurements are approximate only.

Shields come with a hanger attached to the back to make for instant wall hanging and display.
