'Family Digging for Honey Ants' mini artwork by Kathleen Buzzacott, Aboriginal Pitjantjatjara woman.

Painted in Central Australia in 2024 on a black canvas piece, this is an intricately painted design with traditional symbolism.

Kathleen depicts the story of a family digging for honey ants. Honey ants are edible insects with large, swollen abdomens filled with a sweet nectar, who live in underground nests. They are considered a delicacy in the diets of Aboriginal communities and can provide medicinal properties for treating sore throats and skin infections.

Background is made up of Kathleen's signature fine dot work, using contrasting colours of red, brown, purple and blue with a yellow border to compliment the honey ants.
